PAKIGE 3: SUMMER BUGGIN'

PAKIGE 3: Summer Buggin' is a digital and physical fanzine privately organized, created and released among the members of a tokusatsu-focused Discord server. This is the third edition of this celebratory zine, for the fourth anniversary of the server. This time, the theme of the zine was summer and bugs. Catching bugs? Bugs. The zine is not available to the public, but you can find some of the pieces in the archiveofourown collection that some of the contributors chose to share.

Below is the entry I submitted to the zine. I created one illustration for the zine. Big sigh. I wanted to do more, but I had too much on my plate. This illustration has been included in the AO3 collection, which you can find here.

My submission

Bug Catching - companion piece [AO3 archive]

Kamen Rider Ryuki fan art. An illustration depicting three figures: Professor Kagawa, an older man with short black hair and a hard, serious face, wearing glasses, a button-up shirt under a lab coat, black pants, and a belt-like device around his waist. Satoru, a younger man with black hair in a fluffy-looking bowl-cut hairdo and somewhat dangerous-feeling expressionless eyes, wearing a jacket. Destwilder, a monster with a sturdy striped body that vaguely resembles a tiger. The composition is divided in four layers. In the background is a breaking mirror, glass shattering and crumbling into smaller pieces. Next is Destwilder's shape in a profile, its shape looming and fuzzy. After comes Satoru, facing the same direction as Destwilder, face obscuring with some feeling, lips parted. His arm extends towards the viewer and his palm turns into Destwilder's, a sharp monstrous thing with a pawprint on his palm. His large claws frame the shape of Kagawa, standing firm in the middle of the illustration. He faces the opposite direction as the other two characters, and he looks confident. He holds a rectangle-shaped device in his right hand. The drawing is signed as SPILL.

My only piece for the zine. An illustration inspired by MarineHaddock's story, Bug Catching. I went with a more symbolic approach, rather than illustrate a specific scene from the story. What I really wanted to capture was the feelings Satoru has for his mentor. You can tell how much MarineHaddock loves this ship through his fic, please read it and be convinced of the power of this homewrecking tigerboy ship.

Extra

Kamen Rider Ryuki fan art. A sketch of Destwilder, a monster with humanoid proportions that looks somewhat like a tiger. It has a thick, wide torso, with wider shoulders. Its face is mask-like, with no visible mouth and blank eyes. It has a pair of spiky ears on top of its head. Its head, shoulders, arms, chest and torso are striped. The drawing has a 3/4 perspective, with Destwilder facing towards the left of the picture. The drawing is signed as SPILL.

I'm sad I couldn't draw more for the zine, so here's a sketch of Destwilder I made as a warm-up before I drew the zine piece.
