| Favorite OTP moment | Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, episode 14 (19:17-22:41). Amuro pulls off a life-risking attack that echoes a tragic battle in the One Year War, ramming a hijacked freighter into Buran's Asshimar before he can take down the Audhumla. Quattro and Amuro unthinkingly call each other's names during the sortie, but it's not until Kamille catches the falling Amuro that the two confirm each other's presence. Quattro zooms in on the sun-bathed figure laying in the Zeta's hand. His grip on his mobile suit's trigger tightens as the silence of the scene is broken by soft, slowly swelling BGM. In a close-up that puts focus on the scar Amuro left on his forehead, Quattro's (particularly detailed) lashes quiver as he whispers Amuro's name out loud, as if convincing himself that Amuro is real, voice heavy with restrained turmoil.
Amuro recovers from his risky escape in time to thank Kamille for his help and see Quattro open his cockpit. He gasps, realizing the pilot's identity: it's Char. The burning light of the sunset engulfs them when they make direct eye contact, making it seem as if everything else has disappeared. Amuro's shock dissolves as he reaches an unvoiced conclusion, while Quattro's intense gaze persists, still convincing himself that Amuro really is in front of him. After Amuro whispers Char's name once last time, the shot finally distances itself from the pair, showing Hyaku Shiki and the Zeta hovering close to each other without touching, slowly losing altitude. I can't say with certainty that this is my favorite amusha moment but it is certainly the moment that flipped a switch in my head and made me go "oh, this ship is real", after having spent the entirety of 0079 not really getting what the fuss was all about. |

| Extra | Rightstuf's BD release of Char's Counterattack contains a tragic translation error: the subtitles translate and give romaji karaoke to the line "許し合えるその日を" when in reality the short version of Beyond the Time that's used in this movie keeps only the chorus that uses the line "愛し合ったあの日を". It pains me to know the full impact of this song playing after CCA's unforgettable ending won't be felt by the vast majority of those who bought this BD unless they really get into this sick tune and decide to look up the lyrics. |
